Surfview

This project started with one small design request: Create drama and color at the front entry. We created a fountain featuring billowing orange glass seaweed tentacles hand-fabricated in Seattle, framed against a gradated brilliant blue Bisazza glass tile set on a circular waterdrop patterned floor of Italian Sicis tile. The project scope grew to include removing all lawn and plantings and replacement with succulents and California natives. We also created strategic shade structures made with aluminum and suspended 3Form panels in a Mondrian type composition. Subtle changes to the hardscape such as squared off edges and concrete steppers to soften edges blend it with the Mid-Century Modern architecture of the home. A Corten steel retaining wall on the hillside adds structure and ties in with the architecture. The hillside is a tapestry of succulents, grasses, and deeper rooted shrubs for slope stability.
